Writing about your Allergies: Dermatographria

There is not necessarily any testing that goes into evaluation of dermographia, other than to validate that stroking causes wheals on the skin.  The Allergist-Immunologist can evaluate to see if further testing is necessary.

Initial treatment of dermatographia includes taking type I and type II antihistamines (see below), sometimes two or more times per day, in order to prevent the reaction.

If this does not work, Omalizumab (Xolair) is typically used to stop the inflammation and put the patient in remission.
