Dr. Wendt has again been named one of the Valley’s Top Docs, an honor decided by votes from fellow physicians and referring specialists. Because it comes from colleagues who understand the demands of the profession, the recognition carries particular weight.
When told of the news, Dr. Wendt did not celebrate herself. Instead, she spoke about the people around her.
“I’m grateful,” she said simply. “When the brilliant and wonderful people you work alongside every day think highly of you, that means more than any title. But I see what they do. I see the long hours, the difficult conversations, the quiet follow-ups no one else notices. There are many physicians here who deserve recognition.”
She reflected on why she chose medicine in the first place. “Growing up, the doctors I knew weren’t just skilled—they were steady and kind. They showed up for families during some of the hardest moments of their lives. That example stayed with me. If I’ve done anything worthy of recognition, it’s because I’ve tried to live up to that standard.”
Dr. Wendt also acknowledged how challenging the profession has become. “Medicine asks a lot of people. It’s complex, it’s demanding, it requires many sacrifices, and it doesn’t always leave room for recognition. The fact that so many still choose it, and continue to serve with integrity, says a great deal about who they are.”
For Dr. Wendt, the award is less a personal achievement and more a reminder of the community she is proud to be part of. “I’m honored,” she said, “but mostly I’m thankful—to my colleagues, my patients, and the team that makes it possible to do this work every day.”
